Ms. Sahiba Gafarova, PABSEC President, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, the PABSEC Secretary General took part in the 150th Anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which was held in Tashkent (Uzbekistan) on 5-9 April 2025, in the Tashkent City Congress Centre. Representatives of 190 countries, including 49 chairpersons and 46 deputy chairpersons of parliaments, 15 observer states, and more than 25 heads of international and interparliamentary organizations participated in the Assembly. At the opening ceremony, the participants were addressed by Ms. Tanzila Narbayeva, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ms. Tulia Ackson, IPU President (United Republic of Tanzania), and Mr. Martin Chungong, IPU Secretary General. The general debate was dedicated to "Parliamentary action for social development and justice”. The speakers emphasised the importance of expanding the participation of parliaments in achieving social progress and building a just society. At the end of the five-day work, the Tashkent Declaration was adopted. On the sidelines of the Assembly, the Fourth Conference of the Parliamentary Network of Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network was chaired by Sahiba Gafarova, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Network of the Non-Aligned Movement. The topic of discussion was “Commemorating 70 Years of the Bandung Spirit: The Role of Parliaments in Upholding the Bandung Principles”. The Conference participants emphasized the growing importance of the Non-Aligned Movement in present international relations. The Tashkent Declaration was adopted, which emphasizes the need for further development of the institutional structure of the Parliamentary Network. In his speech at the NAM PN Conference, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, emphasized the importance of deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation in countering the challenge of migration and the return of refugees, the significance of joint decisions on pressing social issues in cooperation with humanitarian organizations, as well as the intensification of parliamentary diplomacy. The PABSEC Secretary General met with the PABSEC President and discussed the ongoing activities of the PABSEC within the framework of the PABSEC Azerbaijani Presidency and the organizational and preparatory details of the 65th General Assembly to be held in Baku on 17-19 June 2025. The Secretary General met with colleagues from the TURKPA, the PAM, the IPU, the IPA CIS, and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP), and informed on the preparatory work of the 65th PABSEC General Assembly in Baku in June 2025. The PABSEC Secretary General also met with Mr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Jarwan, President of the Organization for Global Tolerance and Peace, and discussed the details of signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the PABSEC.
