On 22-24 May 2024, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, together with a delegation of the BSEC Permanent International Secretariat, took part in the annual International Transport Forum Summit in Leipzig (Germany), which was dedicated to the topic “Greening Transport: Keeping Focus in Times of Crisis.” The Summit was attended by transport ministers, business leaders, heads of international organizations, politicians, representatives of business associations and civil society, leading researchers, as well as representatives of local and regional authorities. Lithuania’s Minister of Transport and Communications Mr. Marius Skuodis opened the Summit and chaired the meeting of the Council of Ministers of Transport. The participants discussed the role of transport in ensuring environmental sustainability, and also assessed the consequences of climate, health and geopolitical crises. The importance of the Middle Corridor as one of the main transport routes between East and West was underlined. Views were exchanged on how transport can contribute to economic growth while promoting environmental and social sustainability. Following the discussions, most participants supported the need to take long-term measures to solve current crises, such as the use of sustainable and automated vehicles, as well as the introduction of modern digital innovations to create a more sustainable transport sector. On the sidelines of the Summit, Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General, took part in an event organized by the OECD, upon the invitation of Mr. Ashraf Bouali, Director of the Istanbul Centre of the OECD.
