On 15-16 September 2020, the International Conference on “Social Cohesion in the Black Sea Region” was organized online by the Black Sea Universities Network in collaboration with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), the University of Ankara and the University of Bucharest. The PABSEC was represented at this event by Ms. Roberta Alma Anastase, Head of the PABSEC Romanian Delegation, Mr. Istvan Antal, member of the PABSEC Romanian Delegation and Mr. Asaf Hajiyev, PABSEC Secretary General. The Conference provided a framework for the exchange of views and knowledge on the issues of strengthening the social cohesion in the BSEC region. The event was attended by members of parliament, experts, representatives of diplomatic missions of BSEC member countries and international organizations, academics, students, representatives of local authorities. The debate was held on a wide range of issues of social cohesion. The factors, conditions, and principles of the formation of modern social policy in the BSEC countries were considered from the scientific point of view and the priority role of the state in achieving this goal was underlined. The PABSEC representatives spoke about the work in the PABSEC and stressed that strengthening social cohesion is an important condition for democratic security and sustainable development. The need was noted for cooperation between the BSEC Member States through the exchange of information, experience and best practices in order to further develop the concept of social cohesion in the BSEC context. The synergy of different approaches, levels of knowledge, traditions, policy frameworks and experiences will give additional impetus to this process. It was emphasized that there is a need for a broader approach and collaborative effort to maximize the participation of all stakeholders at local, national and regional levels.
